How We Test

We've spent 2,000+ hours testing 300+ products across dozens of categories. Here's how we do it — and why you can trust our recommendations.

Our Testing Principles

Real-World Testing

We don't just read spec sheets. Every product we review is used in real-world conditions for days, weeks, or even months. VPNs are tested across multiple servers and streaming services. Robot vacuums clean real messes on real floors. Cookware prepares real meals.

Objective Benchmarks

Where possible, we use standardized benchmarks to compare products. Speed tests for VPNs, suction power measurements for vacuums, decibel readings for headphones — we quantify performance so you can make apples-to-apples comparisons.

Side-by-Side Comparison

Every product we review is tested against its direct competitors. A VPN isn't just 'fast' — it's '15% faster than ExpressVPN on North American servers.' Context matters, and we provide it.

Long-Term Evaluation

We update our reviews regularly (at least every 6 months) to reflect software updates, pricing changes, and new competitors. A product that was great in January might have been surpassed by June — we'll tell you.

Value Analysis

Performance matters, but so does price. We calculate cost per feature, consider subscription vs. one-time pricing, and factor in hidden costs like replacement filters, subscription fees, and accessories.

Our Rating System

Updates & Corrections

Our reviews are living documents. We update them at least every 6 months or sooner if a product receives a major update, pricing change, or if new competitors emerge. Every review shows its last updated date. If you spot an error, please contact us and we'll investigate promptly.
