The Reolink Argus 4 Pro sets a new standard for wire-free security cameras. The 4K sensor paired with a 180° field of view means one camera can cover an entire front yard — something that previously required two or three cameras. The level of detail is exceptional: license plates are readable at 30 feet, and facial recognition (via the app's AI) is reliable at 15-20 feet.

Color night vision is the killer feature here. Traditional security cameras switch to grainy black-and-white IR footage at night. The Argus 4 Pro uses a large aperture f/1.0 lens with an advanced sensor to pull color detail from minimal ambient light — street lights, porch lights, or even moonlight. The result is genuinely useful nighttime footage that maintains color information for identification.

Battery life exceeded expectations in our testing. With the default motion sensitivity and recording 15-20 events per day, we got 5.5 months on a single charge — close to the claimed 6 months. The included solar panel ($30 add-on) makes it effectively self-sustaining. For high-traffic areas, expect 3-4 months without solar assistance.

The local storage approach is both a strength and a limitation. You get full control of your footage on a microSD card (up to 128GB), with no monthly fees ever. However, if someone steals the camera, you lose the footage. Reolink's optional cloud backup ($3.99/month) addresses this, but we wish they offered a free rolling 24-hour cloud buffer like Eufy does.

AI detection is accurate, distinguishing between people, vehicles, and pets with few false alerts. The app allows you to draw custom detection zones and set sensitivity by object type. One annoyance: the 2-second pre-roll (recording before motion is detected) isn't available on battery to conserve power — wired cameras like the Reolink Duo 3 handle this better.
